This week, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) sent letters to Gov. Tom Wolf and the governors of New York, New Jersey and Michigan, requesting data regarding COVID-19 and nursing homes. To date, 5,175 long-term care residents and 4,440 staff have died from the virus in Pennsylvania, 40 in Lebanon County. The DOJ is attempting to determine whether the policies of these governors to admit or re-admit COVID-19 patients to these facilities may have contributed to the spread of the virus and deaths in this vulnerable population.
