HARRISBURG – Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon) today announced he has sent out official notices to residents of the 101st District who have been identified by the Pennsylvania Department of Treasury as the proper recipients of unclaimed property.

The Treasury Department is required to advertise the names and addresses of unclaimed property owners each year. These ads must appear in a general circulation newspaper in the owner’s last known county of residence.

“Every year, members of the General Assembly attempt to alert folks in their communities that they may have unclaimed property that is rightfully theirs,” Ryan said. “Unfortunately, in this age of phone, internet and mail scams, many people believe these notifications are just another scam and ignore them.”

This year, Ryan has taken the extra step of sending letters to each constituent of 101st District who has specifically been identified by Treasury of having unclaimed property. If a resident receives one of these letters from Rep. Ryan, please do not ignore the notice.

Abandoned and forgotten, these items may include bank accounts, forgotten stocks, un-cashed checks, unused gift cards, life insurance policies, proceeds from safe deposit boxes and much more.

“If you receive, or have already received, an official letter from my office notifying you of unclaimed property, it is not a scam or a trick,” Ryan said. “If you want to get the unclaimed property that is rightfully yours, please follow the instructions in the letter and my staff will assist you if needed.”

Please keep in mind that Treasury is only required to advertise property that is valued in excess of $250. In addition, the names appear in the paper only once, so we also encourage everyone to search Treasury’s Unclaimed Property database at or call the Unclaimed Property call center at 1-800-222-2046. (Many property owners were listed in years past and will not, therefore, be listed this year, so the ads should serve as a reminder to check
