Ryan Announces $945,000 in Community Conservation Funding
11/16/2018
HARRISBURG – Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon) announced today that the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has approved three separate Community Conservation Partnership Program (CCPP) grants totaling $945,000 for projects in 101st Legislative District.

“Anyone who knows me also knows how much I love to spend times outdoors and walking on our beautiful trails here in Lebanon County,” Ryan said. “Pennsylvanians are blessed with parks, forests and waters that are the envy of many other states. We should conserve and protect our quality of life, and these projects advance that goal.”

In Lebanon County, development of the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail in Lebanon City and North Cornwall Township will get $500,000 for the construction of approximately 1.1 mile of trail from the intersection of 22nd Street and Chestnut Street to the existing Lebanon Valley Rail Trail between Quittapahilla Creek and Chestnut Street trailhead.

“The Lebanon Valley Trail is truly a jewel in our outdoor recreation portfolio,” Ryan said. “One of the curses of living in the beautiful landscape of southcentral Pennsylvania is that lots of folks want to live here too. Enhancing our green spaces is a needed balance to the development that fosters our economy.”

That effort is furthered by a second grant to the Pennsylvania Chautauqua Foundation, which will receive $350,000 toward the acquisition of approximately 18 acres in South Londonderry Township for the protection of open space fields, hardwood forest and adjacent riparian areas along the Conewago Creek.

In Lebanon City, a grant of $95,000 will further the development of Southwest Park. Work is to include installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access, landscaping and other needed improvements.

The CCPP program provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofits for planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects.
